Why Czech Republic for Fishing?
Czech Republic sits at the heart of Central Europe, drained by major river systems that flow toward both the North Sea and the Black Sea. The Vltava, Elbe, Morava, and Ohre rivers, along with thousands of ponds and reservoirs, create a remarkably diverse fishing environment for a country of its size.
What makes Czech fishing particularly interesting is the combination of accessible urban spots and genuinely wild stretches. You can fish within Prague city limits and catch carp and bream, or drive two hours into South Bohemia and find yourself alone on a river bank with trout rising in a mountain stream.
The Czech Fishing Union (Cesky rybarski svaz) manages most waters and issues permits that are reasonably priced and straightforward to obtain. For foreign visitors, a guest permit covers most accessible locations. The regulations are taken seriously, which keeps fish populations healthy.
I started fishing here after moving from Moravia to Prague in 2017. What began as occasional weekend trips turned into a genuine obsession. These pages collect what I have learned, mostly through trial and error, about fishing Czech waters effectively.
